In April 2023, the 14th International Interdisciplinary Workshop was organised at the Faculty of Civil Engineering for students. The theme of the workshop was “Non-residential Building(s) and Site Improvement Project”.
Throughout the month, students from the Faculty of Civil Engineering, together with students from the National Academy of Arts and Crafts (CNAM Grand Est, Champagne-Ardenne, France) at the University of Reims, the IUT University Rennes, students from the Erasmus+ exchange programme, and students from the University of Pardubice (Czech Republic), who had joined the project from afar, designed the spaces.
The workshop brought together 8 teams of 5-6 students from the Construction and Building Engineering Systems study programmes. The students worked together to assess the needs of people with disabilities, analyse and select renewable energy sources, structural solutions, and design heating and ventilation systems for buildings.
Students attended guest lectures/seminars, field trips to construction sites and visits to companies.
5 April On April 5, 2023, the Faculty of Civil Engineering hosted a lecture in English “Sustainability, YIT Lietuva” by Monika Dobrovolskytė, Sustainable Construction Engineer at UAB YIT Lietuva, and Jonas Baziukas, an environmental specialist. During the lecture, the students were introduced to CO 2 footprint assessment (GHG protocol), the company’s long-term sustainability goals (SBTi) and life cycle assessment.
On 6 April, a lecture on “Intelligent construction with BIM” and educational field trips were organised. During the lecture, Tomas Jakučionis, Head of Design and BIM at Conres LT, UAB, presented the company’s experience in working with BIM and the projects completed. The participants visited the Business Centre “K22” (Kauno str. 22, Vilnius). The personnel manager of UAB “Conres LT” introduced the company’s activities and the objects under construction, and the head of the construction works of the object introduced the students to the peculiarities of the construction of the business centre and the engineering systems of the building.
On 11 April, UAB VMGcorp’s sustainable construction expert Paulius Milčius gave a lecture “GreenConTech as renaissance of timber construction”. During the lecture, students learned about the circular cycle of timber construction, the economic advantages of timber construction, the potential of timber resources, timber products and engineered wood solutions.
On 12 April, an educational trip to UAB Aerema was organised. During the trip, the head of the company, the project engineer and the head of the design team introduced the students to engineering systems projects, the design process and stages, presented examples of projects carried out by the company, and shared their experience in modelling engineering systems in buildings.
On 17 April, an educational excursion to the VILNIUS TECH laboratory building was organised. During the field trip, the students had the opportunity to get acquainted with the installation, commissioning and debugging of heating and ventilation systems, as well as the project documentation.
On 24 April, the participants of the international workshop visited the INHUS Prefab reinforced concrete structures plant (Žarijų str. 6, Vilnius), where they got acquainted with advanced technologies and the production process of reinforced concrete elements (slabs, columns, stairs, wall panels), as well as with the principles of storage, transport and installation. The company’s representatives talked about the problems and challenges they face in their projects in Lithuania and abroad.
The students’ projects were evaluated by a panel of experts from different fields. During the building design practice, the FRANTUANIA team’s project was selected as the best. Congratulations to the students !
