About the Faculty of Design
The Faculty of Design was established in 2002 after the reorganisation of the Vilnius Higher School of Construction and the establishment of the Vilnius College of Construction and Design, and its origins date back to the time of the Vilnius Technical College of Construction, when it started to train Architecture students.
The Faculty of Design is a community of creators and educators united by common goals, which prepares highly qualified interior, graphic, interactive design and photographic technology specialists who are in demand in the market and who are able to adapt to the changing needs of the market and to professionally realise their creative ideas. Studies are carried out in full-time and part-time form.
The faculty’s lecturers actively participate in artistic and scientific activities, most of them are professionals in their chosen field. Lecturers continuously improve their qualifications in various courses, seminars, conferences and internships, participate in competitions, exhibitions and plein-air exhibitions, and prepare and implement various projects in Lithuania and abroad.
The Faculty actively cooperates with educational institutions in Lithuania, Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Latvia, Poland, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovakia, Turkey and the United Kingdom.
The Faculty of Design is constantly changing and evolving:
In 2007-2008 the material base of the faculty was renewed: an editing room and a Photography Technology Laboratory were built under the project “Modernisation of the visual base for specialists in the fields of construction, railway transport and design”, which was awarded by the College under the EU Structural Funds;
2008-2009 Faculty of Design has set up drawing rooms in the Faculty of Technology building at Olandų g.16;
2009-2010 Graphic design studio with workshops;
In 2010-2012, as part of the EU Structural Funds project “Modernisation of the Study Infrastructure of Vilnius College of Technologies and Design”, which was awarded by the College, the infrastructure of the Faculty of Education and Design was reorganised and modernised, and in 2014 the Faculty moved to modern premises in Olandų g. 16.
The Faculty of Design consists of 2 departments:
- Design;
- Media.
Each department curates two study programmes: the Design Department curates the Graphic Design and Interior Design programmes; the Media Department curates the Multimedia Design and Photography Technology programmes.
The study programmes at the Faculty of Design are constantly updated to take into account design trends, market needs, educational innovations and the new requirements for professionals.
In 2010-2011, following the implementation of the EU Structural Funds project VP1-2.2-ŠMM-07-K-01-122 “Improvement of the Quality of Design and New Media Studies”, the study programmes were renewed, the content of the programmes was more focused on the results of the studies and was adapted to flexibly respond to the changes in technology and market needs, by introducing or modifying new specialisations, and it was possible to widely use innovative teaching methods. All this brings the studies of the Faculty of Design closer to the standards of design and multimedia in foreign schools and facilitates the integration of the College’s students (including those from foreign countries) into other higher education institutions and the international market.
