Vilnius College of Technologies and Design – where creativity meets innovation!

March 2024 started off with a bang at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, with the Faculty of Civil Engineering’s “STADI 2024” days on 4-8 March!

“During the days of STADI 2024, a month-long international interdisciplinary workshop was opened and launched, with the participation not only of the College’s second-year full-time students of the Construction and Structural Engineering Systems study programmes, but also of students from French universities, and the organisation of an interactive exhibition, “A Retrospective of the Projects of the International Interdisciplinary Workshops”.

The week was full of various events, meetings, trainings, seminars and educational activities for students, lecturers and faculty staff:

  • Remote lectures were given by representatives of Rothoblaas SRL from Italy on “Introduction to CLT buildings” and by Cecilia Ciacci and Neri Banti from the University of Florence on “Sustainability and Life Cycle Thinking: methods and applications”.
  • Lectures by guest speakers from companies are organised for students and lecturers: Evaldas Žvirblis, Head of MSC Lithuania, gave a lecture on “The strategy of azure oceans – the story of one family”, Arvydas Antanas Šniukšta, Engineer of NIT, UAB, gave a lecture on “Ventilation equipment for swimming pools”, and Vytautas Dinda, Technical and Sales Consultant for Projects, Geberit, UAB, spoke about “Geberit solutions for building engineering systems”, Cihat Kahraman, CEO and founder of VSight UAB – “Application of artificial intelligence solutions in logistics” and Andrius Timofejevas, Sales Manager of Danfoss UAB – “Heating/cooling systems balancing and control”. For teachers and staff, the training “We are all different… or how to deal with people whose style is different from yours” was organised by Renata Gailiūnienė, HR Manager of UAB Infes.
  • Students and lecturers took part in the “Games Day: sports competitions, board games” event, which included a 6 km running race, table tennis and a free-throw basketball tournament. The winners were congratulated and awarded by sportsman, businessman, actor and rapper Vytautas Medineckas (Ironvytas)! In addition to physical strength and stamina, 10 teams of students and lecturers competed in a brainstorming competition. The winners, students of the Transport Logistics programme, were awarded the main prize – an afternoon with the Dean of the Faculty at the Television Tower.
  • During the faculty days of STADI 2024, STADI 2024 lecturers also organised educational workshops for schoolchildren – students from the 3rd grade of Vilnius Antakalnis Gymnasium took part in 4 workshops – “Thermal imaging in construction”, “Virtual walk around buildings”, “Possibilities and application of UAVs”, and “Become a transport manager for the day”. Lecturers themselves also participated in meetings with students at schools – at Kalesninkai Gymnasium in Kalesninki district of Šalčininkai they presented the College and its study programmes. The lecturers also went on 4 educational excursions together with students and staff of the faculty. They were organised to the Railway, Customs and Wooden City Architecture Museums and Vilnius City Municipality.
  • The traditional practical student conference “Environmental Protection and Engineering 2024” was also held, where participants were welcomed by Remigijus Lapinskas of the Green Policy Institute, who presented the topic “Principles of organising a green city of the future”, and by Denis Tarasonis, JAVA programmer and team leader of Nortal, who fascinated the conference audience with the topical topic “Artificial Intelligence: from theory to everyday life”. Students of the Faculty’s study programmes presented their practical knowledge, research results and insights in the conference sections: 21 student presentations were presented in the Civil Engineering and Business sections.
  • The Career Day attracted the most attention from students, lecturers and placement supervisors.It included motivational meetings, a Contact Fair and roundtable discussions. Vytautas Medineckas (Ironvytas), athlete, entrepreneur, actor and rapper, shared his success stories and motivated students to reach the heights of their careers with his inspiring ideas in his presentation “Do you know which muscle is responsible for your success?”, and Gintaras Ignatavičius, Storyselling sales practitioner, business consultant, lecturer, trainer and trainer, who presented his presentation “A man with no story”. The students were also invited to take part in a public lecture-workshop “How to prepare an “inspiring” CV and write a cover letter”, organised by the Talent Recruitment Specialists of Girteka UAB. Representatives of the 27 companies participating in the Contact Fair shared information with students, lecturers and internship supervisors about the companies, their activities, projects under development, presented internship and employment opportunities, and presented their insights and expectations for the future labour market participants in the roundtable discussions: in the Civil Engineering roundtable discussion, the topic was “Engineering of the Future: Needs, Competences, Opportunities”, while in the Business roundtable discussion, the topic was “Digital Transformation in Logistics”.
